To Care
The MND and Me Foundation’s mission is To Care and To Cure. While we work towards finding a cure, we fill the gaps to ensure every Queenslander living with MND gets what they need, when they need it and at no cost.
We help people with MND and their families by offering support services, programs and equipment, as well as financial grants for situations outside of regular funding schemes.
How we help
The MND and Me Foundation has always worked towards ensuring all Queenslanders with Motor Neurone Disease receive equitable access to support services when and where it is needed. We try to offer you and your family support services that deliver the right solutions, at the right time.
Support Coordination
We can connect with you Support Coordinators across Queensland who offer advice, links to local service providers and suppliers, referrals to educational programs and allied health services, as well as help access funding through National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) and My Aged Care (MAC).
No matter what age or stage you’re at, a Support Coordinator will guide and assist you to access the services you need to maintain quality of life.
Support Groups
Regular support groups are available state-wide to provide the opportunity for people living with MND to meet in an informal environment to chat, catch up and learn from each other. Carers are welcome too!
Guest speakers from the health and community sector, who know about MND or have expertise in a topic that may be of interest to the members, are invited to present to the support groups.
Communication Connect Program
We offer iPad’s, eye gaze equipment and other communication devices at no cost, as well as access to voice banking. Thanks to a collaboration with SpeakUnique, we can help you set up voice banking to record, store and download a synthetic version of your own voice to use on communication devices.
This program helps people living with MND stay connected with loved ones and the overall community, and keep their independence for longer.
More services
To ensure you have access to high-quality equipment when you need it, we offer rentals at no cost to you.
We have partnered with organisations across Queensland to fill the gap between the prescription of equipment and its availability via NDIS, My Aged Care, MND Association of Queensland or private purchase.
Please ask your Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to contact us, if you don’t have one, we may be able to refer you to one.
Carers need support too and we facilitate workshops and other events designed to strengthen their skills, connect with others and provide tools for self-care.
We provide specially designed workshops, face-to-face meetings, online forums and individual advice for care, equipment and support.
We work closely with psychologists across Queensland who provide children’s counselling services, face-to-face as well as tele-consults.
To ensure there is quick and easy access to this critical service, we will fund an introductory package.
You can apply for up to $2,500 per year for situations that sit outside of regular Government funding, like home modifications, bucket list experiences, carer respite and consumables.
Download the application form to apply and read the T&C’s.
Throughout the year we offer free group nature outings and wildlife experiences across Queensland for people living with MND and their families to enjoy together.
This free app is full of practical tools to help with logistical coordination of the many medications, appointments and services that a person living with MND has to juggle.
